Mustard Fish Curry

A pungent fish curry made with a mustard seed paste.

Ingredients

  • Fish: 500g (Rohu or similar freshwater fish)
  • Mustard Seeds (Black): 2 tbsp
  • Garlic Cloves: 4-5
  • Tomatoes: 2, puréed
  • Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  • Red Chili Powder: 1 tsp
  • Mustard Oil: 4 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

    Grind mustard seeds and garlic into a fine paste.

    Lightly fry the fish pieces in mustard oil and set aside.

    In the same oil, add the mustard-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.

    Add tomato purée and spice powders. Cook until oil separates.

    Add 2 cups of water and salt. Bring to a boil.

    Gently add the fried fish pieces.

    Simmer for 7-10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
