A traditional Andhra mutton curry with a rich, brown gravy.

Ingredients

  • Mutton: 500g
  • Onions: 2, chopped
  • Tomatoes: 1, chopped
  • Coconut and Poppy Seed Paste: 1/4 cup
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste: 1.5 tbsp
  • Red Chili Powder: 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder: 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Oil: 4 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

    Heat oil, sauté onions until deep brown.

    Add ginger-garlic paste and fry.

    Add tomatoes and cook until mushy.

    Add spice powders and sauté the masala.

    Add mutton pieces and fry on high heat for 10 minutes.

    Add the coconut-poppy seed paste and cook for 5 minutes.

    Add hot water, cover, and pressure cook or simmer until mutton is tender.

    Garnish with garam masala and serve.
