Ulavacharu Chicken

Chicken cooked in a thick, traditional horse gram lentil soup (ulavacharu).

Ingredients

  • Chicken: 500g, boneless
  • Ulavacharu (Horse gram soup): 2 cups, ready-made or homemade
  • Onion: 1, chopped
  • Green Chilies: 2, slit
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste: 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Ghee or Oil: 2 tbsp
  • Fresh Cream: 2 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

    Cut chicken into small pieces and marinate with salt, turmeric, and ginger-garlic paste.

    Heat ghee/oil in a pan. Sauté onions until translucent.

    Add the marinated chicken and cook until it is sealed.

    Pour in the ulavacharu and bring to a simmer.

    Cover and cook on low heat until the chicken is tender and the gravy has thickened.

    Stir in fresh cream before serving.

    Serve hot with rice or naan.
